The Backpacking 101 will happen on January 16 and 23-24, 2020 and gives you the BASIC Introduction to Backpacking. This is a 2 day class. Part 1 is instruction located at Chinsegut Conservation Center in Brooksville where we will review equipment, Leave No Trace, where and how to backpack and more. Following lunch* we will load up packs and take a short intro hike on the property and plan the hike for the following weekend.
OPTIONAL – Part 2 will be held Jan 23/24 this hike will include an overnight stay and prepare you with the hands on skills you will need.

Planning Tips, Gear Review, Choosing your meals, Understanding your fitness level, Understanding the basic skills needed, Review Gear Lists, Basic First Aid Kits, Organizing your backpack, and Leave No Trace Principles.

If you have your own pack, please feel free to bring it. This is a great opportunity to test out your gear. If there is rain in the forecast, please bring poncho/rain gear.
Wear closed toes comfortable (not new) shoes.
Ages 12 and above – must be accompanied by a paying parent/guardian.
*Please bring your lunch – we will break, but there will not be time to go off property.
